Yesterday a Purple Water lilly burst into view smelling like sweet delicious honeydew.
March weather is cool and windy with more rain but it is all relative because on Kauai the days are all lovely in their own way. It is really never too cold after all. I love this time of year, everywhere I look spring flowers are bursting through the foliage to present their beautiful spring faces in the gardens.
False banana flowers are so pretty in pink! Their four to six foot stems are good for large wedding bouquets.
Torch Gingers in pink and red are some of my favorite blooms. Their stems can be really long as well, six to eight feet and the blooms are sometimes the size of a human head. it is fun for my guest to take pictures with the torch people (flowers).
All around the ponds the Psittacorum are popping out their little orange heads. I love the various stages of this prolific bloomer from the tiniest sliver of orange to a full splash of bright color.
While walking through the gardens a few days ago I came across this gorgeous hibiscus flower. It measured almost eight inches across and its sheer beauty made me pause and stare for several minutes. Flowers are so magical and delicious all at once.
Orchids are one of my favorite flowers, I have attached them to my Coconut palms all around the ponds.
Gardenias are perhaps the sweetest smelling flowers on earth. I love to pick them to scent my home and car. When I was first designing the gardens years ago, my daughter Julie was with me and she insisted we plant gardenia bushes everywhere. I am so happy she did they have become my favorite flowers and luckily they are everywhere at Honua Lani Gardens, The gardens of Heaven on Earth. I hope you have enjoyed touring the spring flowers in my gardens and would love to hear about your favorite spring flower experiences.
