One of the wonderful things about having a botanical garden property with ponds, established trees and tropical flowers is that it offers a spiritual space to have outdoor events. This past summer my willing workers Sean Tant and Rebecca Van kassle decided to have a very simple and inexpensive wedding at Honua Lani Gardens where they had been working for almost three months.
Rebecca became very fond of the gardens and a real expert at germinating seeds. The vegetable gardens bloomed into an oasis of delightful tasty choices under her expert care.
When deciding where on our beautiful botanical estate to stage their wedding Rebecca decided she wanted to be among the beans and okra, lettuce, papayas and kale while she took her vows.
Their decision to use family court Judge Acoba to do the honors stemmed from the fact that he offered a much more affordable price than any of the other possibilities they researched. He arrived for their five PM wedding wearing his court attire and looked very official. Rebecca said he was very polite and seemed to enjoy the festivities.
One of the fun things about getting married in Hawaii is the possibility of going barefoot during the ceremony and Sean and Rebecca kept to the local tradition and had a simple barefoot garden wedding.
A glowing Man and Wife, Sean and Rebecca proudly showed off their wedding certificate. Their wedding was attended by friends Mary and Nick Zacula. ( Unfortunatly I was on vacation in Canada at the time and missed the celebration.) Mary was the photographer, she took these lovely photographs of the happy couple.
Rebecca and Sean are now living in New York City where they are both actors. They worked very hard during their days here in the gardens, completing many projects and keeping up the gardens. They will be remembered for their winning personalities and fun dispositions as well.
I wish them all the best in their new married life together and look forward to seeing their names up in lights in the not to distant future.
Do you know any garden lovers who also took there vows in a garden? I would love to hear your comments. Please be my guest and share your story.
